Ardèche

We then headed south-west to the Ardèche and a campsite called Le Plan d'Eau.
It was on the banks of the Ardèche river and in the shadow of some magnificent cliffs.

Camping in the Alps - part 2

Our other main campsite in the Alps was La Grange du Travérole near Bessans.

Travelling across the Alps

We spent a couple of days driving down through the Alps, wiggling up and down some of the big passes and camping in Beaufort en route.

One of several Lammergiers near Col d'Aravis
 Quick swim stop at Flumet.

Camping in the Alps - Part 1

Our first campsite was Le Pelly, near Sixt Fer-a-Cheval.

Despite sharing only a few words, Wilf found a great mate in our neighbour, Axel.
In the week we stayed, we did several big climbs, though the highest peaks were still towering over us.

This became a theme of the holiday - waiting for butterflies to sit on you - something that happened even more frequently when you had worked up a healthy sweat (or had a hat with 'flowers' on...)
The alpine flower meadows were a huge highlight of the trip.

 Cascade du Rouget
